The sign says it all really. Most of our larger possessions that we aren't giving to family and friends have been sold. My beloved IKEA poang chair, our dining table and chairs, Ben's bed, our printer, Nick's bike (and various other bits...). We shall be living with very little. And it only just hit me. Some items are being collected by the winning bidders today. This afternoon. The rest will be gone sometime during the coming week. Damn, this is harder than I thought. I'm going to have to watch strangers come and cart away the stuff we've spent years building up. Yeah, it's just stuff, but it's my stuff. The stuff I've built a home with for my family. We shall now spend the next few months living like vagabonds and the reality is starting to hit home BIG TIME.
I just have to keep focusing on the end goal. I am excited about the future, I just wish I could fast forward the next few months.........
* edited to add, a couple just came to collect a side table from us and in doing so, enquired about where we are moving to. When we told them Canada, they were most impressed and said it'd be a great opportunity for the kids - and us "especially the way this country is going!". As they walked away, the man said "don't look back". Those words keep coming back to me since he said them. Amazing how a complete stranger can be a comfort and a reassurance like that......

OMG. You're serious.
I wish you all the best and lots of good STUFF to collect along the way ;)
We've done it too, and let me tell you, it'll be worth it.
yeah, we're serious alright! It's comforting though to know that someone else did it too and loved it! Thanks :-)
I can only imagine what you're going through. Matthias and I have been there ten years ago - without children and with only me leaving. Oh well. I got the book "Oh, the places you'll go" from Dr. Seuss when I had to leave the US after me high-school year - it helped me. Maybe it'll help you? Since I don't know your address I'll just give you the link to youtube reading: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38iNVLhhurE&feature=related
And maybe this link will help you a bit getting over the lost Poäng chair: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/store/burlington
:)
Katja, you're so sweet - I have been scoring IKEA canada - though they don't sell the full range and it is much more expensive - especially after adding HST on top....but at least I can get me another POANG!
I'll definately check out that book - we love Dr Seuss :-)
